Do Not Think, Just Do: A mindset that gets stuff done
Surprisingly, or rather, unsurprisingly, you can do a lot of things if you just do them.
Whenever we give ourselves time to think, we give ourselves a chance to "rationalize" postponing our tasks, choosing to do them "later", instead of now.
What is this mindset good for?
When doing trivial chores or tasks, I suggest you follow the philosophy of “Do no think, just do!”.
That way you reduce the chance of overthinking and becoming overburdened by the thought of doing said tasks; tasks that don't even require that much thinking to do.
What happens if we overthink?
Analysis Paralysis, it happens when we overthink our tasks; making ourselves overwhelmed at something that can simply be broken down into simpler, smaller tasks.
Dangers of Analysis Paralysis
Procrastination
Overthinking can lead to indecision and hesitation, causing individuals to delay starting or completing tasks.
This procrastination can result in missed deadlines and increased stress.
Strained Relationships
In group settings, analysis paralysis can strain relationships and teamwork.
Team members may become frustrated with the lack of progress, and conflicts may arise due to differing opinions on the best course of action.
Loss of Confidence
Individuals experiencing analysis paralysis may lose confidence in their decision-making abilities.
The fear of making the wrong choice can destroy their self-esteem.
Diminished Creativity
Overanalysis can stifle creativity as individuals become overly focused on the details and potential risks.
This is because creativity usually only thrives in an environment that allows for exploration and experimentation.
How do we develop this philosophy?
Accept Imperfections
Your goal isn’t perfection; it’s to make it work, it’s to get the job done.
Don't overthink or dwell on making things flawless. Accepting imperfection can free you from unnecessary hesitation.
Ignore shortcomings
If you made a mistake or an unfavorable event happened that was beyond your control, ignore it, simply adjust, and get the job done first.
Then, and only then, can you think about your misfortune.
Start Small
If you having trouble starting, then begin with manageable tasks to build momentum.
As you gain confidence through smaller accomplishments, you'll find it easier to tackle more significant challenges without overthinking.
More techniques that compliments this philosophy can be found here:
Just simply do them, don't think
Just do before you think. Not much else needs to be said.
