Fun and Inexpensive Hobbies

Traditional Art and Digital Art

Doing art, traditional style or in digital, can be a rewarding and fulfilling experience, it provides numerous benefits for your mental well-being and expresses your creativity to the world.

Examples of traditional art would include, but are not limited to oil painting, Pencil Sketching, Water coloring.

For digital art, examples would be:

  • The use of graphics tablets to create digital art;
  • The use of graphics software, like Adobe Illustrator and Blender; And
  • The use of graphic design platforms like Canva.

Bodybuilding and Powerlifting

Bodybuilding and powerlifting are both popular strength training activities that offer numerous physical and mental benefits.

The only difference between the two are their goals, training methods, and competition formats.

What is the difference between bodybuilding and powerlifting?

  • Bodybuilders focus on growing muscles to make their bodies more aesthetically pleasing;
  • While powerlifters focus on gaining strength regardless of muscle growth. They typically emphasize more explosive movements than bodybuilders.

You can also just forget about this nonsense and just lift weights or do some calisthenics, doing exercises in general is fun;

It gives you that “runners high” feeling and a sense of accomplishment afterwards.

If you want to make a habit of bodybuilding or powerlifting, but don't have to time to go to the gym, then I suggest you create a home gym.

Boxing or other form of Martial Arts

Boxing and other forms of martial arts can be fun and very rewarding for the psyche.

Though I understand that it is not for everyone, since not all like or want to be involved in violence;

Regardless of that reason, I still recommend people to join a boxing gym or any other gym that teaches another martial art.

It's fun, it humbles you, and it makes you a little bit more confident when you see yourself improving and winning.

Playing the Guitar or other musical instruments

Learning how to play my favorite song was my main motivation to start teaching myself the guitar.

The whole process is a mixture of frustration and satisfaction;

At first, you’d hate how unskilled you are, then later on you will be happier and get a pint of gratification as you progress and become more skilled.

Of course, once you are skilled enough, you will realize that you are not that good, then the whole process starts itself again.

Playing the guitar is very fun, and I like to think this also applies to other musical instruments.

Benefits for playing a musical instrument:

  • Social Interaction: Playing a musical instrument can be a social activity. Joining a band, participating in jam sessions, or simply playing for friends and family can create a sense of community and shared enjoyment.
  • Cognitive Benefits: Aside from improving our coordination and motor skills, learning how to play an instrument enhances memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Focus and a Sense of Calmness: Whether you're strumming chords, picking melodies, or experimenting with different techniques, simply the act of trying to learn gives you a sense of calmness and focus like no other.

Cooking and Baking

Aside from being able to eat the food you are cooking or baking (which I believe is the best part of the process);

Cooking and baking are somewhat therapeutic, just like playing an instrument or making art, it gives you a sense of calmness and laser-eye focus.

You don’t have to start attempting to create high difficulty dishes, you can start by making a modified version of the dishes you already know how to cook.

Here are some examples of a modified version of scrambled eggs:

  • Sausage and Pepper Scrambled Eggs: Cook crumbled sausage and sliced bell peppers in a pan. Pour beaten eggs over the mixture and scramble until fully cooked. Season with salt, pepper, and a pinch of paprika.
  • Mushroom and Spinach Scramble: Sauté sliced mushrooms and fresh spinach in olive oil until wilted. Add beaten eggs to the pan and scramble until cooked. Season with salt, pepper, and a sprinkle of Parmesan cheese.
  • Cheesy Scrambled Eggs: Whisk eggs with a bit of milk, salt, and pepper. Cook them in a pan with butter or oil until almost set, then add shredded cheese (cheddar, feta, or goat cheese) and continue cooking until the cheese melts.
