5 Key Steps to Organize Your Life for the Better

5 Key Steps to Organize Your Life for the Better

How to Organize your Life for the Better

1. Establish your short-term and long-term goals

It does not matter what nature your goal possesses; it can be about your career, health, relationship, personal development, etc.

You just have to establish it and make it clear to yourself what your goal is.

2. Create a Schedule

Treat your schedule as something holy, something that is meant to be followed and preserved.

When making a schedule, be sure to include a time for recreational activities.

Humans are creatures of emotion; we are susceptible to mental breakdowns. We should not design our schedules as if we are robots.

When making a schedule, give yourself time to do recreational activities.

3. Control your Environment

The best way to battle against diseases is not through better medicine but by preventing the disease from ever occurring in the first place.

The same logic can apply to procrastination and temptations. Yes, you can use willpower and hold yourself accountable every time you find yourself procrastinating or succumbing to temptations.

Or, you can simply control the environment to make the temptation non-existent.

When I say temptations, I am referring to anything that dissuades you from achieving your goals.

For example:

  • If you want to quit smoking, then don’t go near shops that you know sell cigarettes.
  • If you want to start eating healthier, then limit yourself to only being able to buy healthy foods.
  • Clean your environment like your room or place of work of anything that tempts you or makes you feel stress.

Ways to control your environment:

  • Don’t go to places that may tempt you
  • Don’t engage with peers who are currently doing something you don’t approve of (temptations like smoking)
  • Don’t buy anything that tempts you
  • Clean your environment like your room, living room, or place of work of anything that tempts you

4. Ignore what is unnecessary

This advice is related to the one above (Control Your Environment).

There will be situations where we cannot control our environment, making it harder for us to ignore temptations.

The only defensive arsenal we have left is to simply ignore it. Ignoring something is cost-effective. It requires nothing, and it works well.

Actions that help you ignore temptations:

  • Preoccupy yourself on work
  • Think of something else, anything else
  • Leave the environment
đź’ˇ
Outside of your recreational time in your schedule, anything that is not related to your goals should be ignored. Simply pretend that it does not exist.

5. Keep your body healthy

Don’t let your body deteriorate. If you don’t take care of your body enough, you will soon feel more lethargic and have a greater chance of getting injured and sick, which will affect productivity badly.

đź’ˇ
You cannot ignore your health. Your body is your vessel, and for now, it is the only one you get in this lifetime. Treat it well.

FINAL WORDS

Despite the fact that these bits of advice are simple and obvious in nature, not many are successful in following through these steps.

There are various reasons for this, but I suspect that the common perpetrator is procrastination and inconsistent commitment.

What do we do about this?

We can start with creating a habit.

When making a positive change of your daily life, you have to be consistent for at least 3-4 days, thats usually enough time to make it into a habit.

âť—
When building a habit, never be inconsistent for two days. The moment you miss two days, is the moment you start making a habit of procrastinating.

For problems in starting out, I suggest practicing this type of mindset; it is simple and it works.

Surprisingly, or rather, unsurprisingly, you can do a lot of things if you just do them. Whenever we give ourselves time to think, we give ourselves a chance to “rationalize” postponing our tasks, choosing to do them “later”, instead of now. What is this mindset good for? When doing trivial
