How do you start Baking?

1. Choose a beginner-friendly recipe for baked goods

Well, first things first, choose any baked goods that has a simple procedure.

Here are some beginner-friendly baking recipes:

2. Gather your Baking Equipment

After choosing, the second thing to do is to gather the required equipment to create your chosen baked goods.

Since the baking equipment you will use depends on what baking goods you plan to make, I will instead be providing you with the common baking equipment that you are bound to use if you plan to turn baking into a hobby of yours.

Common baking equipment you would most likely use:

  • An Oven;
  • Baking Pans;
  • Mixing Bowls;
  • Measuring Cups and Spoons;
  • Mixer; And
  • Utensils like spatulas, whisks, and mixing spoons.

3. Do it! Practice!

What you need the most as abeginner is experience.

Depending on your chosen baked goods, you may have to:

  • Use measuring cups for dry and liquid ingredients
  • Do some kneading if you are working with dough
  • Beating butter and sugar together
  • Etc.

Which is good! Because this is what we came here to do, to learn the art of baking.


THINGS TO KEEP IN MIND

Join Baking Groups

Regardless if you are a beginner or a veteran in the world of baking, if you have not already, consider joining a baking group.

Baking groups are an excellent way to share experiences, ask for advice, get baking recipes, and get inspired.

Where can I find these baking communities?

Reddit and Facebook Groups have great baking communities.

If you want to find such groups, simply type “r/baking” in Reddit and “baking” or “baking groups” in Facebook.

Consider Investing in Baking Books or Courses

Books and online courses can provide in-depth knowledge and techniques

A free and alternative way is to search for tutorials in Youtube.

Stock Your Pantry

If your plan is to make baking into a hobby of yours or to create baking goods in large quantities, then I suggest you stock your pantry in advance for the sake of convenience.

This way, you won’t have to make frequent trips to the grocery store whenever you want to bake something.

Some examples of what pantry to stock:

  • Flour like bread flour or cake flour
  • Sugar (granulated sugar, brown sugar, and powdered sugar are common)
  • Butter
  • Eggs
  • Baking Powder and Baking Soda
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Milk
  • Yeast
  • Salt
  • Etc.

Don't be Afraid to Make Mistakes

Not every bake will be perfect, this is especially true if you are just starting out.

Learn from mistakes and adjust, don’t think too much about it.

There is no need to rush the process, simply follow each step carefully, and learn from mistakes.
